Looking through several possible rack solutions and various ways to rig my own I decided to purchase the Sonnet Solution. I could not be more pleased as it was a perfect fit and provided room for an external USB hub as well as an extra compartment I used to place an external HD in a storage enclosure the same form factor as the Mac Mini.

Sonnet Solution also has holes in the back to tie wrap your cables. It is an expensive solution but all things considered still the best value for a rack mount solution for Mac Mini. The chassis is VERY well made, the front facing button means no more fiddling around on the back of the unit where crucial connections are. The front mounted / USB 3 jacks are perfect for thumdrives and fast!

We use the mac minis for our rack mounted mobile dj systems and these are a dream come true. We mount the mac mini in the right bay and an external hard drive in the left. You have to remove two screws to get rid of the partition, but it fits great and works perfect.The back has points for wire management as well. This thing is rock solid. Rated 4 out of 5 by Morty from Built like a tank As the name suggests, this enclosure is used to mount 2 Mac Minis into a Hergo rack cabinet. It is of solid metal construction that bolts into the rack securely with no warping or bending. The Macs dropped in without fuss, snugly held in place by the rubber strip.

There was even room - barely - to wedge in Seagate Backup Plus Slim drives in the space behind the Macs. That was a welcome surprise. The only downside has been the remote power switches. I have been unable to line them up with the power buttons on the Minis and achieve successful function. Luckily I can get at the power switches by other means.

All in all this product does what it is designed to do - hold a pair of Mac Minis in a rack. The price reflects the niche nature of the market.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Michael from You get what you pay for I have four of these in presentation rooms. They're expensive, but less expensive than replacing Mac Minis. The RackMac provides a clean installation and complicates theft (especially when used with a least one security rack screw). It provides a very sleek, rugged enclosure. The power button on the RackMac is a mechanical linkage that physically pushes the power button on the back of the Mac Mini.

When combined with the superdrive kit, only one power button is needed. Remove the spring from the other and wrap tape around the shaft behind the rack face to keep it permanently pressed and prevent confusion. Keep in mind that the two front-accessible USB ports will use up half of your Mac Mini's USB ports, so if you use a wired keyboard and other USB peripherals you'll likely want a USB hub. We recently purchased two Minis to control and playback sound and projection cues.On a college campus, anti-theft is a serious concern. I have the rackmount in a locked room (with some student access), installed with 4 security screws (not included), and with longer (deeper into the rack) devices installed above and below. This seems to adequately prevent any theft, as well as making the rear ports difficult to manipulate for those who wish to meddle. If you don't know there are Macs in there, you'll never know.All described features work great and fit is perfect - a rep from Sonnet says all unibody - that is, silver-top - Minis will fit this rack.One wish-list item is to include a simple lock mechanism of some kind, a small locking steel tab or bar of some kind, especially if K compatible, would make this a truly killer purchase. Other Mini securement products exist, but the only other rackmount that was on the market is overseas (I'm in Chicago) and discontinued.Overall very happy with it! You'd love it in a built-in rack or a road case.

The only cons are price (which really isn't all that bad, and B & H does happen to have the most competitive price I've seen - so if you buy from them you know you'll be getting the best deal going), and also the power switch arrangement seems a little weak (the power switches seem like they may fail due to mechanical wear issues). Otherwise a brilliant piece of kit, and simply the best option available for mounting a mini in a rack.
